The term "Quaker Valley" describes an area 15 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, PA along the Ohio River where the hills banking the river flatten out. The area is home to a robust history. Settlement in the valley started as part of the Depreciation Land Grants given to veterans of the American Revolution. The Ohio River played a key role in the area's development as river boat captains chose the area for their homes and when the railroad was built in the early 1850s, many industrialists joined as well and commuted to downtown Pittsburgh by train. Today, the "Quaker Valley" is home to 5000+ families across 11 municipal boroughs, each with their unique characteristics and history.
